• Beauty lessons from my Mum

Aside from packing your lunch boxes, driving you to that after school gymnastics class every Wednesday and always being good for a bear hug, Mum’s are also a wealth of information when it comes to your beauty routine.

So here are some top shelf beauty tips I learnt from my Mum.

A sneaky pinch of the cheeks never hurt anyone.  An oldie but a goodie, this little trick will add a rosy flush to the apples of your cheeks when there’s no time to source the blush.  A temporary fix, sure, but guess what? You can re-apply whenever you want!  All you need is a good set of pinchers and voilà, you’re sitting pretty.

Make-up alternative…Shu Uemura Lip & Cheek Fun-Tasy Tint in Dream Pink.

If you must be something, be bronzed.  Bronzer wins hands down over blush every time, according to ma mère.  Multi-functional,  a bronzer serves as a contour, an eyeshadow base and is basically ‘healthy glow’ in a compact.  Plus, everybody knows a tan is the easiest way to look like a skinny mini.  Win and win.

I like…Guerlain Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder in 04 Sun Blondes

Never leave the house without a good hand cream. You know how in the later seasons of Sex and the City Carrie is always wearing gloves?  That’s not because gloves are trendy, gloves can never be trendy, it’s because your hands are often a dead give away for age.  UNLESS, you invest in a killer hand cream and use it often.  I’m talking every day ladies.  Plus, it means when that someone special finally holds your hand in the middle of the movie, he/she doesn’t feel like How To Tame a Dragon is sitting right next to them.  Scales = not sexy.

I like…Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm and Nivea Soft Face Body Hands Moisturising Cream.

You’re young, you’re beautiful, you have the best skin of your life, don’t hide it with foundation!  DO invest in a good quality moisturiser though.  As my mother dearest says, get me the most expensive one there is.  Amen girl.  Not necessarily a beauty prod you have to sell an arm and a leg for to get the most bang for your buck, there are some lovely supermarket brands that moisturise just as well as the more luxe offerings.

    I like….Kiehls Abyssine Cream+ Anti-Wrinkle Defense Cream.

If worst comes to worst, a good pair of sunnies never let any woman down. Some days, your face just doesn’t want to cooperate.  On days like those, nothing else will do but an exceptionally chic pair of sun glasses.

What about you, what beauty tips have you inherited from your Mum?
