Lately, I’m feeling this strange affinity to my more feminine side. Strange because I’ve never fancied myself as a girly girl when it comes to life, or style. But when I think about it, I am drawn to a skirt or dress more often than not. BUT, does not pants actually equal girly?
It’s a fine line between feminine and girly. In my mind, the latter is certainly worse than the first, both being not ideal options.
I have this reoccurring image in my mind of Carrie Bradshaw wearing a giant white fake flower pinned to her one-shoulder micro mini dress, gold lurex boots in tow, not giving two shits. Yes I know her character is annoying as fuck and we can collectively agree that she is ‘the worst’, but for me, she was a character that embodied a woman truly embracing her unique style. She followed the trends, but didn’t run away with them. She didn’t subscribe to one look, she truly dressed according to how she felt … even if she was feeling girly.
New style goal: embrace inner Carrie.
There’s a certain freedom in embracing your inner Carrie – in attitude towards fashion only. Girl was terrible at financial planning, anything career oriented and was clearly an awful friend.
So maybe, kind of, perhaps girly is a little bit … ok?
Ok who am I kidding, give me the girliness! I’m talking lacy lace, sugar sweet pink and lilac, ruffles and dare I say it, sparkles. In true Carrie style, I’m taking inspiration from the over the top – Couture Fashion Week!
These are my new style inspirations, check it.
How do you feel about girly style? More importantly, what’s your least favourite thing about Carrie Bradshaw?
