It’s no surprise that the global refugee crisis dominated the submissions of the World Press Photo Contest this year.
Despite being an annual force of personal creative inspiration, the contest also acts as a humble reflection of greater humanity and the world as it stands. Each year, each entry, each photographer slowly reveals a glimpse and at times hidden truths into the zeitgeist.
So while it’s no shock to see the very real struggle of thousands of displaced humans traversing around continents reflected in this year’s entries, they also remind us of the stunning surprises the world still has to offer.
Congratulations to this year’s World Press Photo of the Year winner, Australian Warren Richard.
